General Internal Medicine Rapid Assessment Clinic

Consulting

The General Internal Medicine Rapid Assessment Clinic (GIMRAC) provides quick access to internal medicine consultations for patients referred from the emergency department, Urgent Care Centre, and community physicians.

GIMRAC is also an “Ambulatory Clinical Teaching Unit” with a strong academic and educational mandate for medical residents and other learners which means patients may encounter students during their visit.

Our team is made up of Internal Medicine specialists, who focus on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of adult diseases. Specialists in this area are trained to understand a broad range of illnesses and deal with multi-system issues.

The goal of GIMRAC is to evaluate, diagnose and develop a plan of care that is patient and family centered. This care plan is then communicated back to our patient’s family physician.

Your doctor may order additional tests as part of your assessment at our clinic. Since we are located within the Boris Clinic, you have access to a variety of tests that would be booked and completed in a timely fashion.

After we receive your referral, we will call you with an appointment time to be seen in the clinic.

We ask that you bring your health card and all of your medications, including puffers and any vitamins or non-prescription supplements you may be taking.

Expect to be at the clinic for 2-3 hours for an in-depth assessment by both a medical resident and a staff physician.

If you require an interpreter, please bring one with you. If you do not have anyone who can come with you to interpret, please let us know when booking your appointment and we will arrange to have an interpreter here for you.
