Virtual Healthcare

Patient with a tablet

Hamilton Health Sciences has partnered with the Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) to explore and use technology solutions to connect patients to their healthcare provider(s). The goal is to provide high quality patient care outside of the hospital in ways that are more flexible and convenient. Virtual care focusses on removing barriers to receiving and providing care such as distance, travel, mobility challenges and time, to name a few.

We are using virtual care in the Boris Clinic! Currently, some of our health care providers are offering eVisits for follow-up appointments. An eVisit is just like a regular appointment. The only difference is that you will see and speak with your doctor online via videoconferencing. All you need is your computer, tablet or smart phone and a good internet connection to join a secure videoconference offered by the Ontario Telemedicine Network. eVisits are not be videotaped or recorded.

What are some benefits of eVisits?

  • They allow you to stay in your own environment. You can have your appointment wherever you have a private location and a good internet connection.
  • More convenience for you.
  • You don’t have to drive or deal with transportation.
  • Less waiting in hospital waiting rooms.
  • You receive the same high quality care.

Ask your Boris Clinic health care provider if they offer eVisits and if your next appointment could be an eVisit.

Some of our specialist physicians are signed up to provide medical advice to other physicians and nurse practitioners through a secure web-based program, hosted by the Ontario Telemedicine Network called the Ontario eConsult Program. It is accessed through the OTN Hub.
